Update

Well I ended up missing the last few days of school because I was taking a para training. I ended up passing with a 98% Woo Hoo! However, I was sad that I did not get a chance to properly say goodbye to the children. They ended up getting me a framed picture of them all with a sign that said "We Love You". They also all each made something for me to thank me, and I got a thank you card from the teacher I work for. I also got a DVD documenting the class that year, and I was touched that they included me in the DVD!

The next day, which was the last day of school, one of the students got me a B&N gift card as well as a notebook with a fabric cover that said Serenity on it. I have been using the notebook to write down positive things that happen in my life, so when bad things happen I can look back and be appreciative. I also finally got my book from being the Star Student where all of the children wrote what made me a Star Teacher. All of these things really touched my heart! This is the thank you email I sent to the class:

"Hello Room ***

I am so sorry that I could not be with you all the last two days of school. I loved all the cards and pictures you made for me. I will keep them forever!

Even though I only worked with you guys for a few weeks you all made me feel so welcome and that means a lot to me. I will miss you all this summer but I will see you all in the halls or possibly the lunchroom next year! You will all make great second graders. Thank you again and have a wonderful summer!

Love,
Mrs. M******"

It is the middle of summer now and I'm bored out of my mind! I am ready for the school year to start, especially so I can update this more! That is all for now!

Star Student

For my second week of work, I was the "Star 'Student'" of the week! Below is the star that I made! I had to blur out some personal information, but the kids loved it! They learned a lot about me!!!

More Teacher Appreciation Week Gifts

Yes I definitely started working on the right week :-) I did not get a picture of the lunch from the last day of the week, but we got personally made pizzas any way we wanted, and a HUGE selection of desserts! It was really nicely done and greatly appreciated!

Some Pictures

There is not much to write about my second day, so here are just some pictures of the classroom and the second gift I got from the PTO for Teacher Appreciation Week!

My First Day

My first day started out eventful enough. I was so nervous. I walked into the office to let them know that it was my first day. They had no idea that I was starting that day! Apparently the HR office had not passed along the message. So my classroom actually had a substitute already prepared for my position that day. It did not cause any issues because that just meant there were more hands to help!

I went down to the classroom and the teacher I work under was so surprised and excited that I was there! I met the student teacher as well. I was shown where my desk was and given some brief information about what I would be doing that day. The last para had left some notes outlining what was done each day.

The funny thing was that the substitute para was the wife of my old coworker from the job I had just left. That made me feel a bit more comfortable since there was at least some familiarity for me. The kids were all sweet and very excited that I was there.

For my last shift of the day I do lunch duty. So I was given information about what my job would be. I saw three children that I have known since they were babies. That made me feel comfortable as well! On my way out, I saw that I had a mailbox already! Woo hoo!!

In the mailbox was my timesheet and a bag of popcorn! I did not get a picture of it, but it said "You put the 'pop' in our corn!" on it! (I just happened to start on teacher appreciation week hehe) So I went home and I was very satisfied with my day. It has been a long time since I've been happy at a job!

New Job!!

I should have started this blog two weeks ago. I just started working as a first grade paraprofessional. My ultimate goal is to eventually become a teacher. With this job I am helping with teaching and I will have enough time in the day to go to school, unlike my previous job. I am just going to post some things that go on  during my day at school with the kids!
